2. Edward DAWES Sr. Born in ? Greasley, Nottinghamshire, England.2 Edward died in December 1714 in ? Pennsylvania. Occupation: ship owner/farmer.

On 14 Mar 1692/3 Edward first married Elizabeth ROADS, in Breach, Nottinghamshire, England.3

They had the following children:

3. Francis DAWES. Born about 1672 in Greasley, Nottinghamshire, England.4 Francis was baptized in St. Mary Church, Greasley, Nottinghamshire, England on 7 Feb 1672/3.1 Francis died in 1739/1740.2,4 Occupation: farmer.2 Religion: Church of England/Quaker.

William Penn became a Quaker and King Charles II granted Penn a land grant in America in 1681 which later became Pennsylvania. Penn's colonization of this area began in 1682 and he encouraged religious freedom there for the Quakers and other religious groups. The Daweses came to Pennsylvania about 1702 and settled near Philadelphia in what later became Montgomery County. Francis Dawes married Margaret Griffith on 27 November 1704 in Pennsylvania. Margaret was born in Wales and may be the daughter of Thomas Griffith. Francis and Margaret had four known children: Mary, Adrian, Catherine, and Hannah. Francis died in 1749.

On 27 November 1704 Francis married Margaret GRIFFITH4,5, in Gwynedd, Montgomery Co., PA.6,7 Born in Wales (? Cardiff area).

Margaret Griffith may be a daughter of Thomas Griffith, son of Griffith Thomas.

They had the following children:

4. Abraham DAWES Sr. Born about 1675 in Nottinghamshire, England.1 Abraham was baptized in St. Mary Church, Greasley, Nottinghamshire, England on 6 April 1675.1,4 Abraham died on 26 Feb 1730/1.8,4 Religion: Church of England/Quaker.

Abraham crossed the Atlantic from England to America between April and December 1702. In the Radnor Monthly Meeting records (Pennsylvania) is found a Certificate of Clearness from the Breach, Nottinghamshire Monthly Meeting dated 8 April 1702.7

On 5 November 1700 Abraham married Edith ELLIS4,7, in Breach, Nottinghamshire, England.7,4

The marriage date is from The Chesterfield (England) Monthly Meeting records (Cope): "Abraham Dawes, son of Adrian of Newthrop, Notts, and Edith Ellis, dau of George of Higham, Derby(shire), married 9 mo 5, 1700 at Breach.

This marriage was also recorded as occuring on 9 November 1700, in the Greasley Parish Register, Vo. VIII (1905), p. 111 (RJDH).7

5. Joseph DAWES. Joseph died on 19 May 1698 in England.2,4
